What does your clinical practice involve?
- You will have 3 months to complete 20 hours clinical practice upon completion of the e-learning course.
- The 20 hours will consist of 20 hours of therapy treatment including consultation time and can include treatments to patients, carers and staff members.
Please note that these must consist of a minimum of 10 treatments with patients.
- Complete case study records.
What do you have to do?
- Choose a hospice or cancer care centre close to you from the register.
- Contact the clinical lead listed and arrange times for your clinical practice.
- Provide copy of Butterfly Touch Therapies CPD certificate for e-learning Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care.
- Provide copy of relevant therapy certificates.
- Provide copy of insurance for Personal and Public Liability.
- Provide a current DBS certificate (Disclosure and Barring Service formally known as a CRB).
- You will be required to complete a log showing evidence of treatment times. As the work is patient led you will log all treatments whether a 15- minute treatment or 1 hour. Forms provided.
- Complete case study records for each treatment provided. Forms provided.
- Provide consultation and treatments suitable for patients with a cancer diagnosis.
- You will be observed on: Hygiene protocol, Communication skills, Adaptations required specific to the patient, Barriers to delivering treatments and Reflective practice.
What is the role of the participating centre?
- To provide support and guidance from the designated clinical lead.
- The role of the clinical lead is one of clinical observation.
- The clinical lead will liaise with you regarding regular times for completion of 20 hours clinical practice, within the 3 months-time scale.
- Upon completion of your 20 hours and case studies, the clinical lead will sign your treatment time log and case study forms, along with a record of achievement for observing good clinical practice.
- A certificate in ‘Clinical Practice’ in your specific therapy will be issued by the hospice or centre where you have completed your training.
