I can thoroughly recommend this course to any practitioners who are working in cancer care, or indeed with any clients who are elderly, frail, highly fatigued or at the end of life. Well done Marie, great course! Thank you! 😃👍👣🌸🙏’

‘I’ve spent the morning completing your wonderful CPD course in Reiki, Massage and Reflexology. Oh how I’ve enjoyed it, you’ve created an interactive, interesting, easy to follow course packed with knowledge and your lovely soothing voice was a pleasure to listen to and watch. I will certainly be recommending this to my fellow comp therapy colleagues and therapy leads. Marie, thank you for delivering this course with so much knowledge and love.’

Hannah Alvis of Lee

‘I really enjoyed this e-learning course. Being able to study at my own pace and from home really suited me. I found the course comprehensive and at an easy to take in level. Marie is compassionate and as a fellow therapist shows an understanding of the clients and situations that we may come across. Having the nature of cancer, its treatments and information on contra indication specific to cancer patients explained, was really useful. I already offer treatments in this field, I now feel my work will be very much improved and my knowledge much more expansive as a result of taking these e-learning courses.’

Sian James

I’d highly recommend it to other therapies too xx”

Hayley Butt

“I have really enjoyed Marie Duggan’s online course “Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care – Reiki”.  The course is ideal for therapists who wish to gain knowledge and understanding of delivering their chosen therapies confidently and safely within a hospital, hospice or private practice environment.

The course is broken down into 5 sections, making it easy to pick up from where you left off. The format of each module is really accessible with invaluable print outs making note taking super easy and excellent hand-outs for future reference. There are assessments at the end of each module, which is a great way to test your understanding and knowledge while helping to assimilate the material.

I particularly enjoyed the mixture of audio, visuals, case studies and downloads as it really helped bring the course to life. Marie’s step by step videos on how to adapt a treatment/session using Butterfly Touch were particularly helpful and I now feel that would have the confidence to be able to successfully adapt my reiki/reflexology treatments so that I could safely deliver a tailored treatment to anyone with a compromised body system. Thank you Marie.”

Sophia Tayler

“I have completed the course and thoroughly enjoyed it. I recently started working for Penny Brohn, offering reflexology in a GenesisCare oncology centre and found your course to be really beneficial. It has given me the additional confidence I needed to feel I was up to date with information. It has also given me the confidence to be able to offer additional treatments for cancer care clients in massage and Reiki from my personal practice should people wish.”

Alison Taylor

“I really enjoyed the courses. I completed them  in a week, working between 1 to 3 hours per day, which enabled me to properly assimilate each part while doing my other activities throughout the day. The courses are really well set up and provide the necessary information to work with cancer patients in hospitals and hospices as well as in your own private practice.

The courses cover what the patients are going through both physically and emotionally and clearly define our role as complementary therapists demonstrating how we can provide a safe place for the patients to experience a relaxing treatment.

The courses are very well set up with a mix of texts (slides), audios and videos making it a very interactive way to learn, which worked really well for me. There are also handouts to print out with invaluable information that I can refer to whenever I need. There are a lot of case studies as well as videos showing massage and reflexology routines; there are assessments throughout the course which is the perfect way to test your understanding and knowledge while helping to assimilate the material.

I am really happy to have taken the Complementary Therapies in Cancer care for Massage and Reflexology courses. I already work with a few patients with an incurable illness (MND) in my own practice and wanted to offer my services to patients in hospitals and hospices but didn’t feel confident enough. These two courses have given me the confidence to do so. Thank you Marie for having compiled your knowledge in such and in-depth course.”

Natacha Maillard

“The course is perfect for therapists who have had no experience within a hospital or hospice setting but who are passionate about their therapies and want to gain the knowledge and understanding of delivering their therapies confidently and safely within these settings.

The course is presented in parts and the beauty about it is you can log onto the course at your own pace, picking up from where you logged off.   There are PDF documents you can print off, which contain invaluable information on contraindications, considerations and concerns for each therapy.

There are also really useful case studies on audio format, which really do make the course feel so personal.  The videos really demonstrate Marie’s ‘Butterfly Touch’ approach with useful demonstrations on adaptation of a session and treatment.

It really does provide the therapist with the information they need to know to be able work safely with their therapies when delivering treatments with patients with compromised body systems.”

Lisa Spalding – Complementary Therapy Lead at St Columba’s Hospice in Edinburgh

“I really enjoyed doing this course. Very Informative”

Angela McCullough, Massage, UK

“I have just completed the course. I took a weeks holiday so It’s been the perfect time for me to be able to complete an online course. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, it’s worked amazingly well, something I was a little concerned with when booking it, but with two children and a lack of childcare it’s been so flexible. The audio & video clips and the questions and how they are worded were fantastic, thank you!”

Mandy Cooper

“I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed your course. It was well presented, in an easy to understand manner. I liked the recap of  important points throughout.

Was in small size sections with tests at the end of each sections, I prefer to learn this way. It had a mixture of text, audio and video which is great at gaining all aspects with being an on line course.

I liked how important information was covered well throughout, it’s all important, some was highlighted more so and given reasons why. Explaining about cancer, what to expect via their treatment and summary of cancers was great!

Was given encouragement to be confident on when to suggest client/patient should see their doctor Etc via red flags.

It’s great that there’s so much content, and it can be taken in small batches at a time, saving all progress, I could carry on from where I left it.

I cannot recommend this course enough! I’ve done a course before, most certainly did not cover such content with such confidence from the tutor.

The audio from patients is so valuable. Having had Sepsis myself, I recognised how important the emotions are during and post medical treatment/s and the vulnerability experienced after all medical treatments have finished. I recognised many signs and symptoms in myself, (even though it was sepsis) therefore covering so well post cancer treatment was 10/10! as is the whole course. It was the whole holistic care and demonstrating the value in treatments for those going through cancer and building themselves up after was outstanding.”

Annette Rainbow

“I have really enjoyed the course and look forward to putting into action soon.”

Sharon Frost

“I absolutely loved the course, very in depth and clear to understand. The videos were great to watch and assessments ensured I understood the knowledge.

You are very inspirational and would love to meet you in person at a workshop at some point.”

“I found the course really informative and very easy to follow. My background was Oncology Nursing so some of the information was familiar but great revision and I can only imagine it being invaluable for those with no Cancer experience.

Receiving the Reflexology information has provided me with valuable knowledge to offer my therapy in my new role as a Reflexologist.”

Sandra Maroney

“I really enjoyed your course, it has given me more confidence in approaching cancer patients / palliative care patients. It is the second course I have taken in this modality. Both courses had slightly different approaches which has been very helpful to me. I currently work a couple of hours a week at present in the local NHS hospice giving foot and hand massages to the day care patients. I am looking to do my own private work doing home visits but this will be new to me so I feel the courses have been very beneficial. Again thank you for running this course Marie”

Susan Laurenson

“I am very pleased to have completed the course. I found it very informative and simple to work through so that everything stuck in my mind. I previously did a short cpt online course with a different provider. I found it really boring and could have just bought a book cheaper and read it all in there!

Your butterfly touch course was really engaging and enjoyable. It has given me the confidence to start practising on cancer patients. I am also grateful for enabling to learn online as I find it difficult to travel with family commitments and the location I live. Once again thank you for your training and your support.”

Kathryn Fife

“I logged on yesterday and completed three modules – I’m really enjoying it’. Upon finishing the course ‘You have done a great job! It’s great’.”

Amanda Kirton

“Thank you again, Marie – a truly informative and insightful course that will allow me to confidently treat patients living with cancer.

Thanks again for your huge support, I know your online course is relatively new and you welcome feedback, personally I thought it worked so well, I was able to complete it over 3 evenings and would recommend to all reflexology/reiki/massage therapists.”

Kelly Craddock

“It has been a brilliant course, thought provoking and emotional. It has left me feeling informed and much more confident in my knowledge and own abilities to work ethically within this field. It has been a very worthwhile learning experience.”

Laura Starkey

“It has really been incredibly informative and I have gained much more insight than I expected – the audios of patients experiences with cancer, for example.

Thank you so much for a wonderful course – you have a wonderful soothing voice and I myself feel rather relaxed having just watched your practical videos!’

Thank you again, Marie – a truly informative and insightful course that will allow me to confidently treat patients living with cancer.”

I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and am looking forward to practising the new techniques/using my new knowledge to give better care to clients. I think the massage video is great and very clearly demonstrates the techniques.

“The course was very thought-provoking, thank you for sharing your vast experience in such an easily accessible way. You have the most relaxing lilt to your voice and beautifully clear delivery.

Your detailed and reassuring responses to my questions made me feel like I knew my course tutor, even though we have never met!

I enjoyed it very much and am already ploughing in to further reading with great enthusiasm, as I now feel confident that I can deliver appropriate massage for cancer patients.”

Nina Caton Gupta – Massage

“It’s really well put together. It has been great to be able to access via e-learning.. after 20+yrs of CPD it was great to do it from the comfort of my own home and at the pace that suited me.

Thank you for all your great hard work!”

Claire Day – Massage, Reflexology & Reiki

“I feel lucky to have done the Cancer Care training with Butterfly Touch Therapies. I feel confident now to offer Oncology Reiki at the Planetary Healing Centre in Edinburgh at our Cancer Holistic Support Project.Thank you Marie because your experience and depth of knowledge and compassion was obvious – it was a more emotional journey than I expected. It was a pleasure to connect with you. Thanks for your warm support.”

Annie Crombie – Usui and Karuna Reiki Master

“I am enjoying the course so far and am really liking the format as it does help me to retain the information more effectively.

The course content is fabulous and packed with in-depth information which is wonderful and just what I was looking for in a cancer care course. I’d definitely recommend to others. Thank you so much for providing this course.

I would like to say how supported I’ve felt throughout the course and how it’s provided me with the information, understanding and awareness I was hoping for.

I can’t thank you enough for your time and for providing me with the opportunity to take on the course.”

Sharon Banfield

“The course was fantastic, very detailed, I liked how you went over something more than once, that really helps to let all the information sink in more. I loved the variety, having audios and the videos at the end too, it really keeps it stimulating and interesting, and not to mention the hand outs.

I also want to thank you greatly, without this online course I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do the training, as I couldn’t find anything in Scotland and couldn’t commit to travelling as my spare money is going towards my other course just now.

THANK YOU.

THIS IS FANTASTIC FOR ME AND SO MANY OTHERS!!!

Best Wishes”

Alison Hughes -Reflexology

“I was delighted with the course, really enjoyed it, was such nice pace, fantastic and a joy to do.

The course was fantastic to work through with so much detail.

Marie has been at the end of the phone when I’ve needed support, even though there is a time difference of 10 hours. It’s given me the tools to adapt my reflexology skills and work within cancer care.

I would highly recommend Butterfly Touch to other therapists.”

Paula Watts – Reflexology

“The E-learning Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care Training truly is an outstanding course.

Marie Duggan proves herself a passionate, dedicated and humble teacher, a true pioneer and an innovator in the field of Integrative Medicine.
She brings us a step closer to an emerging health care model where complementary and conventional medicine join forces within the ward and at the bedside.

The course is well packed not only with detailed information and clear explanations but also with thought-inspiring insights.
It is beautifully crafted and intentionally designed to prepare and empower complementary therapists who feel called to work in cancer care or who are already working with cancer patients.

It does equip you with the skills and the tools you need to support both patients and carers in a safe and knowledgeable yet caring and compassionate way.
It provides you with deeper understanding of and precious insights into the impact that cancer has on anyone whose life has been touched by it.
I personally found that invaluable.

After this course, working in cancer care will still be challenging but you will be and you will feel much more prepared to embrace the challenge.

In Marie’s own words: ‘do not underestimate the power of your touch and the strength in your gentleness’.

A butterfly touch can really go a long way.”

“This is a much needed resource for complementary therapists with training in massage, reflexology and/or reiki being the focus of the programme.”

Congratulations to Marie Duggan and the Butterfly Touch Team (BTT) for producing a great innovation which takes forward quality complementary therapy practice  in cancer care. This is a much needed resource for complementary therapists with training in massage, reflexology and/or Reiki being the focus of the programme. The e-learning content includes important guidance for skilful adaption of the interventions, together with information about the experience of living with cancer and effects of treatment. The programme includes demonstrations of how to adapt therapeutic techniques, as well as processes for reviewing learning and helpful resource sheets. Importantly, BTT has created a unique opportunity for e-learning. Graduates will be able to fine tune their skills through a supportive network of cancer care and hospice centres that welcome  therapists for a period of observation/voluntary service. As an experienced  cancer therapist, teacher and author I would like to thank Marie for inviting me to engage with and review this on-line course during the final stages of its preparation. I wish Marie and her team every success in the future.

“This online learning package and clinical/ observational placement opportunity should be welcomed by managers, health and social care professionals”

Previously a Senior Nurse/Clinical Service Manager and Director of Nursing and End of life Care Lead in tertiary and quaternary cancer care; I have had responsibilities for the commissioning, development of complementary therapy services and the recruitment of skilled therapists to provide quality interventions for cancer patients living with, including progressive disease and surviving cancer with its associated treatment modality toxicities and late effects. I welcomed this course as an important step in enabling therapists to prepare themselves to better understand the context in which they wish to offer their services, be it voluntary or as a paid therapist. Often therapists may have personal experience of cancer but limited understanding of how to work in healthcare and social care setting; especially cancer and end of life care. This online learning package and clinical/ observational placement opportunity should be welcomed by managers, health and social care professionals to assist in better preparing therapist to deliver quality interventions to patients and their families across what is often a complex, stressful and lengthy pathway of care and treatment.

“This is a great educational training package not only for therapists but also healthcare professionals wishing to expand their knowledge about complementary therapies in the healthcare setting.”

Marie invited me to review her CPD e-learning Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care course. I must congratulate Marie on creating and developing this training package for Reflexology, Massage and Reiki. I found the e-learning flexible, accessible and thought provoking; covering each modality in detail. The information is thorough and well-presented and provides therapists with the tools and skills to adapt their treatments for patients with a cancer diagnosis. This is a great educational training package not only for therapists but also healthcare professionals wishing to expand their knowledge about complementary therapies in the healthcare setting.

“It is the first of its kind to successfully bridge the gap between western medicine and complementary therapies and is a must for all practitioners working in this highly specialised healthcare field.”

As a teacher in the adult education industry I have had experience with many online and face-to-face educational packages. This course not only delivers insightful, innovative material, it is delivered in a highly engaging, methodical and thought provoking manner. It is the first of its kind to successfully bridge the gap between western medicine and complementary therapies and is a must for all practitioners working in this highly specialised healthcare field. After nursing in both the UK and Australia, I have no doubt that the widespread clinical application of this content will create new standards for palliative care practice.

TESTIMONIALS FROM PATIENTS

“The only time I felt in any way ‘human’ was during the therapies I had with Marie; I was able to relax and let myself go“

I recall that going through chemotherapy and radiotherapy was the most difficult and darkest period in my life. All I could see ahead of me were more sessions of both treatments which I knew made my sickness and tiredness worse with each successive treatment. The only time I felt in any way ‘human’ was during the therapies I had with Marie; I was able to relax and let myself go which was such a blessing. I looked forward to those sessions and they truly were my saviour, I honestly don’t know if I could have coped without her and I cannot put into words the difference she made. I will always be eternally grateful.

“I feel strongly that complementary therapies should be available to all patients going through cancer treatments“

When I was diagnosed with cancer, complementary therapies were the furthest thing from my mind. As I went through surgery and chemotherapy, the stress and worry about my family and financial pressures through not working took a great hold. It was incredibly hard to switch off. It was only from other patients receiving chemotherapy I was informed that we could access complementary therapies free of charge through the hospital and hospice. This was enormously important to me, as at that time I could not afford to pay for these treatments. I went on to receive massage, reflexology, reiki and acupuncture through the hospital and local hospice. I cannot express enough how wonderful this was at a very dark time in my life. For the first time since my diagnosis I actually relaxed and had time just for me and this helped me get through the dark times.  I feel strongly that complementary therapies should be available to all patients going through cancer treatments and patients made aware of the benefits from the beginning.

TESTIMONIALS FROM CANCER CARE WORKSHOP STUDENTS

“I have no hesitation in recommending Marie and her work, she is inspiring and a credit to her profession.”

First I would like to congratulate Marie on her outstanding achievements and professional approach and presentation of all her courses and her new on-line course.

We were extremely fortunate to have Marie visit my School in Harrogate on more than one occasion. As a School Principal and Tutor myself I attended The Cancer Care Workshop as a student. I was so impressed not only by Marie but by her professional, personal attitude to presenting the course.

I learnt and gained a more in depth knowledge and confidence about the role of Therapists in dealing with Cancer care clients. From the other students present there was also great positive feedback.

All course material was beautifully presented with lots of information given by means of the taught aspect of the course.

As for the practical sessions they were amazing. We were able to both give and receive a treatment  in what I could only describe as pure bliss.

I have no hesitation in recommending Marie and her work, she is inspiring and a credit to her profession.

Wishing you every success Marie.

“I felt confident in my newly gained knowledge and techniques, having no reservations about putting them into practice.”

I undertook a workshop, Cancer Care for Reflexology, Reiki and Massage Practitioners, organised by Marie. The extent of her knowledge and experience was amazing.  Marie is so passionate about the subject and this was reflected in her gentle, caring method of delivery. We were provided with excellent quality literature to supplement both the theory and practical elements of the workshop and later remind us of what we had learnt. Leaving the workshop, I felt confident in my newly gained knowledge and techniques, having no reservations about putting them into practice. Thank you Marie, wishing you continues success with these workshops.

“Marie’s course was one of the best I have been on and gets a 10 out of 10 from me!“

I attended Marie Duggan’s CPD Cancer Care Workshop for Reflexology, Reiki and Massage Practitioners at St Mary’s University on 17th April 2016. The course was jam packed with useful, relevant and up to date information for practitioners working within the cancer care field.  Marie has a wonderful way of delivering her material in an easy to understand and empowering way and it was evident throughout the day what a wealth of knowledge Marie has within this specialist area. I have attended many CPD courses for therapists over the years but Marie’s course was one of the best I have been on and gets a 10 out of 10 from me!  I was actually so impressed with Marie as a teacher that I decided to do my Reiki 1 and Reiki 2  with her in Yorkshire (I am based in London!).

“I would (and have) strongly recommend this course to any therapist working with Cancer patients.“

I attended  the cancer care workshop run by Marie in 2016 and a result of the content and delivery of that course went onto do further study with Marie throughout 2017.

Marie’s courses are the perfect balance of experience, knowledge and gifted delivery to enable the best possible results for the candidates. The course was full of well-illustrated and supported information that was invaluable to me in my work with Cancer Patients at the Cancer information centre at Ipswich hospital.

The information gained on this course was of immediate use with regards to contra  indications and delivery methods of therapies for people at every stage of the cancer journey. They helped me to work safely and effectively and I refer back to the take home literature on a regular basis.

I would (and have) strongly recommend this course to any therapist working with Cancer patients.

“I have found the course to be really informative and well organised and structured and I’ll be very happy to recommend to fellow therapists. I especially valued the audio case studies and practical demonstrations and your overall approach really embodies the working together with clinicians and treatments with the patient at the heart of it all“
