Marie has made it to the final again – FHT Tutor of the Year Award 2020

We are so proud at Butterfly Touch Therapies Training to announce that Marie has made it through to the final once again of the FHT Excellence Awards – for the Tutor of the Year Award 2020. This is the third time that Marie has made it through to the final four of this prestigious award – with Marie of course proudly winning it in 2015, and being one of the runner ups last year following the launch of the new online courses.

Marie’s hard work and dedication to all of the work she does in the field of Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care, is reflected in the high quality of the courses that Butterfly Touch Therapies Training has to offer – and we are so thrilled that Marie’s achievements are once again being recognized.

The  winners of the Awards will be announced in the Autumn so we will keep you updated!

Accessible Clinical Practice Via A Mutually Respectful Exchange of Skills

As I developed the eLearning course ‘Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care for Massage, Reflexology and Reiki, I realised that some therapists would welcome the opportunity to gain clinical practice. I came up with the following approach.

The principle is that in exchange for the therapist giving 20 hours voluntary complementary therapy treatments, and submitting case studies, the Clinical or Complementary Therapy Lead will sign off a record of achievement and the therapist will receive a ‘Clinical Practice’ certificate from the hospice or cancer centre.

Stillness

How does this serve you and your client?

I cannot claim to be anything other than a chatty person, as anyone who knows me will testify. I love meeting new people and I am genuinely interested in hearing about their lives. Yet, for all my chattiness I can still access deep stillness for myself and my clients. Throughout my training as a Complementary Therapist I have had to develop my listening skills in quite a different way. I have learnt over many years how to listen deeply to my clients. Firstly, by observing their demeanour and body language. Secondly through client consultation forms and thirdly through touch and energy. Most importantly I have learnt to listen through stillness. Read More

Let Your Light Shine

Do you let your light shine? Or do you shyly hide it under a bushel?

I learnt last night that I am a finalist in the FHT Excellence Awards for Tutor of the Year 2019. I am incredibly honoured and delighted with being chosen as one of three from all the wonderful tutors in the UK.

This led me to think of how far I have developed and travelled in the last 23 years. I have trained and worked as a self-employed Complementary Therapist and Lecturer. Delivering treatments in clinic and writing my own training courses on ‘Stress Awareness’ and ‘The Benefits of Complementary Therapies’ and delivering them in many areas such as Disability Centres, Groups for Disadvantaged Adults, Learning Disabilities, Mental Health Groups and Women’s Groups. Read More

CPD Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care e-Learning For Massage, Reflexology & Reiki

As complementary therapists we need to keep our skills updated, and maintaining certification requires Continuous Professional Development (CPD). However, it can be difficult to know what to train in and therapists are increasingly required to make their skills more specific.

Cancer is a global problem with more people being diagnosed each year, touching more lives, which is why cancer care beckons to therapists. Yet most therapists don’t know whether their skills are appropriate, or how to adapt their treatments; while other therapists have the skills but lack the confidence to apply them. As a result, therapists miss the opportunity to participate in very rewarding work, while patients miss out on the relief, relaxation and improved quality of life complementary therapies can provide.
