Complementary Therapies and Palliative Care

Interview with Gary Philipson

Marie was recently interviewed by DJ Gary Philipson from BBC Radio Tees on the subject of end of life care and the importance of complementary therapies during this time. Reflexology and Grief – An Uplifting Story

My name is Marie Duggan, I am a reflexologist, complementary therapist and a therapy lecturer for cancer care. For this year’s Reflexology week, I wanted to contribute by sharing with you the following client experience. I have removed real names and for the sake of this post I have called her Alice.

I received a phone call from Alice asking to book in for a reflexology session. Upon her arrival I carried out a client consultation. Alice was 70 years young and in good health, but she had been widowed 12 months prior.

Marie has made it to the final again – FHT Tutor of the Year Award 2020

We are so proud at Butterfly Touch Therapies Training to announce that Marie has made it through to the final once again of the FHT Excellence Awards – for the Tutor of the Year Award 2020. This is the third time that Marie has made it through to the final four of this prestigious award – with Marie of course proudly winning it in 2015, and being one of the runner ups last year following the launch of the new online courses.

Marie’s hard work and dedication to all of the work she does in the field of Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care, is reflected in the high quality of the courses that Butterfly Touch Therapies Training has to offer – and we are so thrilled that Marie’s achievements are once again being recognized.

The  winners of the Awards will be announced in the Autumn so we will keep you updated!

Stillness

How does this serve you and your client?

I cannot claim to be anything other than a chatty person, as anyone who knows me will testify. I love meeting new people and I am genuinely interested in hearing about their lives. Yet, for all my chattiness I can still access deep stillness for myself and my clients. Throughout my training as a Complementary Therapist I have had to develop my listening skills in quite a different way. I have learnt over many years how to listen deeply to my clients. Firstly, by observing their demeanour and body language. Secondly through client consultation forms and thirdly through touch and energy. Most importantly I have learnt to listen through stillness. Read More
